01

Mobilization & Registration

The NYSC mobilization process begins after your institution submits your data to the NYSC portal. You'll receive a registration number via email or your institution's notice board. Log in at portal.nysc.org.ng to verify your data, upload your photo, and confirm your details.

Checking Your Call-Up Letter

Call-up letters are released in batches. Log in to the NYSC portal and navigate to "Print Call-Up Letter." Your letter contains your camp reporting date, state of deployment, and orientation camp address. Print multiple copies — they're required at camp.

→Print at least 3 copies of your letter
→Confirm your deployment state before traveling

Orientation Camp (3 Weeks)

Camp is a 21-day mandatory orientation programme. You'll participate in military drills, civic education, cultural activities, and skill acquisition workshops. Report to camp on your designated date with all required documents.

→Maintain discipline — absences are noted

State Deployment & PPA

After camp, you'll receive your Place of Primary Assignment (PPA). This is where you'll serve for 11 months. You can request a redeployment within 2 weeks of camp passing-out if your posting is genuinely problematic.

→Register with your LGI within 48 hours of camp
→Collect your NYSC ID card immediately
→Visit your PPA within 1 week of posting

CDS & Monthly Activities

Community Development Service (CDS) meetings happen every Thursday at your LGA secretariat. Choose a CDS group that aligns with your skills and career goals. Attendance is mandatory — missing CDS is an offence.

→Attend every Thursday CDS meeting
→Document your CDS activities for your logbook

Passing Out & Certificate

After completing 12 months of service with a satisfactory record, you'll attend the Passing Out Parade (POP) and receive your discharge certificate. This certificate is required for virtually all government jobs and many private sector positions.

→Ensure your clearance is signed by all departments
→Collect your certificate on POP day
→Keep your certificate in a very safe place

Common NYSC
Questions Answered

Can I choose my state of deployment?+

No. NYSC deployment is randomized. However, you may apply for redeployment on medical grounds, marriage to a non-mobile worker, or if your spouse is a security operative posted elsewhere.

What if I miss my camp reporting date?+

Missing your reporting date without prior official excuse is treated as an absence. Contact your NYSC state coordinator immediately. In most cases, late arrivals up to 3 days are accommodated with documentation.

Can I work at a different place from my PPA?+

No. You must physically report at your PPA. Serving elsewhere without written approval from NYSC is an offence that can lead to extension of service or sack.

What is the NYSC monthly allowance (allawee)?+

As of 2024, the federal government statutory allowance is ₦33,000 per month. Your PPA may top up this amount. Private sector PPAs often pay significantly more.
